MTN Offers UGX50 Million For New Uganda Cranes Shirt Design

MTN Uganda, in partnership with the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) have launched a nationwide campaign inviting Ugandans to help design the next Uganda Cranes jersey, and stand a chance to win UGX50 million cash.

The initiative gives fans and creatives an opportunity to contribute to one of the country’s most powerful symbols of national pride.

Submissions open on Monday June 22, 2026 with the top seven finalists advancing to a mentorship boot camp before the winning design is produced and unveiled as the next official Uganda Cranes jersey.

With Uganda serving as one of the three co-hosts for the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027, the next 12 months are packed with vital preparations as the team gears up for this historic continental showpiece.

While the Cranes have already secured their place at the 2027 AFCON finals as co-hosts, they are participating in the qualification campaign to maintain competitive readiness.

They have been drawn into Group H alongside Tunisia, Libya, and Botswana.

The jersey campaign dubbed, ‘Free Your Fayaaa – Tulage Waaka,’ aims at unleashing creativity in the population  – transforming Uganda Cranes fans from spectators into creators by giving them a direct role in shaping one of the country’s most visible symbols of national identity ahead of the tournament that starts on June 19, 2027.

However, unlike in previous times when the designs were made abroad, MTN Uganda and FUFA are opening the design process to the public, giving fans and creatives an opportunity to contribute to the future identity of the national team.

Speaking at the launch, John Paul Okwi, Manager Sponsorships and Events at MTN Uganda, said the campaign reflects MTN’s commitment to creating platforms that enable Ugandans to express their talents and passions.

“This is more than a jersey design challenge; it is an opportunity for Ugandans to leave their mark on the national team and create a symbol that reflects who we are as a people,” he said.

Mr. Mugisha Justus, FUFA 1st Vice President, welcomed the initiative, describing it as a unique opportunity to strengthen the connection between the national team and its supporters.

“The campaign gives every fan a chance to add value and truly own the Uganda Cranes jersey they wear. To every Ugandan across the country, your creativity will carry our team onto the continent with pride during international competitions,” he said.

The campaign is open to Ugandans from all walks of life, including professional designers, students, creative collectives and passionate football supporters with original ideas.

Participants will be invited to submit their jersey concepts through mtnmore.com, with entries accepted from both individuals and groups of not more than five members.

Submissions will open on Monday 22 June and close on Thursday 9 July, 2026.
